Idaho 2020
This summer,
the Post took 2 groups of 10 people on our first-ever horse packing trip through the beautiful White Cloud Mountains of Idaho! We drove over 11 hours to reach our destination in Western Idaho, but it was 100% worth it. Before we started hiking, we drove through the charming little tourist town of Stanley and decided to eat dinner there, as well as get some ice cream. To start the trip, we gave most of our stuff to the horse packers, and the next day had a relaxing 10-mile hike up to our base camp with almost no gear. When we got there, all of our stuff was waiting for us, which was super nice and a great perk of the horse packing. For the next 6 days, we explored the surrounding areas, climbing 5 different peaks, and hiking over 25 miles! The location we went to was stunning, with tons of crystal clear lakes, towering mountains, beautiful trees, and just an impeccable landscape all around. And, all of the peaks we climbed were pretty much unknown to us, so we had to practice route finding and mapping out our own way to get to the top. This seemed scary going into it, but ended up as being really fun, and its definitely a great skill to learn for anyone who likes to be outside. On our rest days, we played tons of cards, relaxed by our lake, went swimming, read, had a relay race, and even built a fully working wooden raft! We had breakfast and dinner together in our little homemade kitchen, but sadly, because of COVID-19, we had to eat all our own individual food, which was a lot of freeze-dried meals and oatmeal. We had tons of campfire stories and overall just great experiences - all while immersed in this beautiful, stunning landscape, hidden away from society, just enjoying life and getting to know each other. It was honestly a life-changing experience and I ended up learning so much about myself and the outdoors, so I would highly recommend this (or the Canada trip, which this replaced) to anyone who's always wanted to go on a longer outdoors trip and wants a truly unique experience.
