For Students: Joining the Post

← back to frequently asked questions

Q: Who is eligible to join the Post?

A: Anyone between the ages of 14 – 18 who has an interest in the activities we offer is eligible to join the post. Members must commit to attending monthly meetings at Lincoln High School, and must also complete one service project and one fundraiser per year. Participation in the annual snowshoe trip, typically offered in February, is also expected.

Q: Do I have to be an expert climber/ mountaineer to join the Post?

A: Not at all! The majority of our members had very little, if any, climbing experience before joining the Post. Learning new skills is a big part of what the Post is about. That being said, if you are an expert climber, we also offer trips and opportunities for you. If you ever feel like our trips are not meeting your needs as a climber, please contact us.

Q: How much does joining the Post cost?

A: Here is information on 2015-16 dues. (2016 -17 dues will most likely be similar, if not the same.) For new members, the cost was $45, which covered insurance. Beyond dues, the cost for going on trips is simply your share of gas and food money, though some trips may require you to rent gear, such as crampons or climbing boots. The post has harnesses, helmets, ice axes, rock climbing shoes, carabiners, and belay devices available for students to borrow. Financial aid is available for all trips.

Q: How do I join the Post?
